The Hanover Township Police Department expects the highest levels of professional conduct from all of its employees at all times. We also believe that our members deserve to be recognized for excellence in the performance of their assigned duties. Awards are presented in recognition of the member's dedication to protecting and serving the public.

The following is a list of awards given to members of the Hanover Township Police Department.

Captain J. Shawn Waldron
On July 29, 1998, while off duty, Patrolman Waldron responded to 82 Grand Avenue, and revived an unresponsive 5 year old child. For saving this child, Captain Waldron is awarded the Life Saving Pin.

Patrolman Ray Reisen
Patrolman Ray Reisen was the first responder to a structure fire at 26 Knollwood Road on August 20, 1990. For his actions in attempting to rescue victims trapped inside the house, Patrolman Reisen is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin.

For the apprehension of a man who stabbed an individual at Pine Plaza on July 13, 1996, Patrolman Ray Reisen is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin.

Patrolman Glen Yanovak
On July 7, 1999, while on routine patrol, Patrolman Yanovak managed to charge one man with soliciting a prostitute, seize a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, and rid our streets of a great deal of heroin. For a job well done, Patrolman Yanovak is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin.

Detective/Sergeant Tom Quirk
Detective Tom Quirk became involved investigating a pipe-bombing incident in the Township on July 11, 2000. Based on his tenacious efforts in bringing this case to a close, Det. Sgt. Tom Quirk is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin.

Patrolman Glen Yanovak
On August 26, 2000, Patrolman Glenn Yanovak became involved with two suspicious males at the Howard Johnson's Hotel. The incident escalated to a vehicle pursuit, to the K-9 unit being called in to search a wooded area, and a foot pursuit. As a result of his actions, a dangerous felon was arrested and returned to State Prison. For his good work, Patrolman Yanovak is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin.

Patrolman Lou Zavaglia
Patrolman Lou Zavaglia became involved with a man who produced false identification on November 26, 2000. As a result of his investigation, Lou found the man to have active warrants, an extensive criminal history with numerous aliases, and a charge of strong-arm robbery. For his efforts to bring thing matter to conclusion, Patrolman Zavaglia is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin.

Patrolmen Glen Yanovak and Joseph Quinn
For saving the life of a non-responsive female at 5 Lexington Court on January 5, 2002, Patrolmen Glenn Yanovak and Joe Quinn are each awarded a Life Saving pin.

Patrolman Lou Zavaglia
On January 14, 2002, Patrolman Lou Zavaglia stopped a suspicious motor vehicle. The driver was involved in the promotion of prostitution, and was further charged for driving while suspended, possession of illegal drugs, and operating an unregistered and uninsured vehicle. For this thoroughness in this case, Patrolman Zavaglia is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin.

Detective Sergeant Tom Quirk
For his hard work involving a case of documents being shipped from New Jersey to Puerto Rico in July of 2002, Detective Sergeant Tom Quirk is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin.

Sergeant James Peslis
For a diligent investigation during a motor vehicle stop on July 28, 2002, which resulted in charges of possession of marijuana and CDS, Sergeant Jim Peslis is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin.

Patrolman Glen Yanovak
On November 25, 2002, Patrolman Glenn Yanovak investigated a car parked at the Wellesley Inn. As a result of his investigative and observation skills, he arrested a subject who was charged with possession of heroin and cocaine, and tampering with evidence. For his actions, Patrolman Yanovak is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin.

Patrolmen John Schauder and Paul Gundersdorf
On February 15, 2003, Patrolmen John Schauder and Paul Gundersdorf, using mouth to mouth resuscitation, revived an unresponsive infant at 3 Sharon Drive. For their actions, John and Paul are awarded Life Saving pins.

Patrolmen Glen Yanovak and Joseph Quinn
On April 13, 2003, Patrolmen Quinn and Yanovak became involved with a driver who led them on a high-speed pursuit from Morris to Essex County. For their diligence in identifying and pursuing a car thief, for their driving and running skills, and for seeing the pursuit through to apprehension, Patrolmen Quinn and Yanovak are each awarded Exceptional Duty pins.

Patrolmen Joseph Quinn and Christopher Thompson
For their quick response on June 17, 2003 to 68 North Jefferson Road, where they revived an unresponsive male, using both an AED and CPR, Patrolmen Joe Quinn and Chris Thompson are awarded Life Saving pins.

Patrolman Ryan Williams
On September 13, 2003, Patrolman Ryan Williams responded to PNC Bank, and his actions not only deterred a possible bank robbery, but also put the welfare of the employees and customers above his. Patrolman Williams is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin for his actions.

Patrolman Ray Reisen
Patrolman Ray Reisen initiated a stop on Rt.10 on October 4, 2003 for a motor vehicle violation. During the course of his investigation, he recovered a hypodermic needle, numerous druggist folds containing heroin and cocaine, and a bag containing one pound of marijuana. For his thoroughness, Patrolman Reisen is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin.

Patrolmen Ryan Williams, John Schauder, Rick Duda and Paul Gundersdorf
On November 23, 2003, while manning the Dispatch Desk, Patrolman Ryan Williams received a report of an elderly man who had fallen. Patrolman John Schauder, the first to arrive at Pine Plaza, reported back that the man was unconscious, and he would begin CPR. He was joined by Patrolmen Rick Duda, Paul Gundersdorf, and two civilian assistants. For their tenacity in saving this man's life, Patrolmen Williams, Schauder, Duda and Gundersdorf are each awarded a Life Saving pin.

Patrolman Mike Loock
Patrolman Mike Loock was assigned to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Task Force in the last half of 2003. Mike was involved in surveillance activity when a carjacking occurred. Along with another officer, Mike was able to apprehend the suspect. For his actions, Patrolman Loock is awarded an Exceptional Duty pin.

Patrolmen Chris Martino and Peter Hermans
For their quick response to 3804 Boxwood Court on January 23, 2004, resulting in saving the life of a young child who had been injured by her mother, Patrolmen Chris Martino and Pete Hermans are awarded Life Saving pins.

Patrolmen Jim Grawehr and Robert Carpenter
For their quick response to 111 North Jefferson Road on August 14, 2005, where they used a defibrillator and their knowledge of CPR to bring an unresponsive male back to life, Patrolmen Jim Grawehr and Rob Carpenter are awarded Life Saving pins.

Sergeant Marty Zvolensky and Partrolmen Ryan Williams and Robert Carpenter
On February 4, 2006, Sgt. Marty Zvolensky, and Patrolmen Ryan Williams and Rob Carpenter responded to 41 Ridgedale Avenue on a report of an unresponsive female. Using a defibrillator, these 3 officers were able to revive the victim. For their actions, all three are awarded Life Saving pins.
